Meet Dr. Jeremy Bekker
I want to help you build a meaningful and fulfilling life while honoring the complexity of the challenges you face. In therapy, we will first work together on building a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique behavioral and relational context (e.g., Explore your unique experience with a particular focus on understanding the core challenges that prevent you from living the life you want to live). I believe the best therapy occurs when we work together to approach your challenges with compassion and precision, and I have advanced training in gold standard approaches for delivering individualized care to build meaningful relationships, meet personal goals, and experience less suffering.
After forming a treatment plan, we will use evidence-based techniques to build more flexible ways to move towards what matters most to you while processing challenging experiences and emotions. Therapy is an active process, which means we will practice applying new ways to approach your challenges both in and between sessions. I specialize in helping individuals get unstuck, and enjoy helping individuals figure out how to live value driven lives, especially in complex life circumstances. A values driven life is one where you feel free and able to experience meaning and satisfaction in your day to day life while being unburdened by unnecessary psychological suffering. People who work with me often report that their psychological suffering has reduced and lightened over the course of treatment and often report that they are better able to recognize and experience their emotions with compassion and care, and connect more fully with things that are important to them.
I have interest and specialization in the intersection of anxiety and systemic issues, and am particularly passionate about supporting individuals experiencing existential, political, and ecological distress. My research focuses on climate distress, and I have supported individuals both directly impacted by natural disasters and individuals experiencing grief or anxiety about future crises. When working on these concerns I seek to balance processing challenging emotions while working to find workable ways for you to move towards your values.
I specialize in supporting individuals with:
1. Anxiety, phobias, OCD, and overthinking
2. Climate distress and grief, coping with natural disasters
3. Inattention, perfectionism, and procrastination
4. Faith Transitions and existential anxiety
5. LGBTQIA+ mental health including gender affirming care
6. Adjusting to new phase of life (college, career change, relationship change, aging)
